No es fácil elegir la temática sobre la que reflexionar en el último artículo del año antes del descanso navideño. Finalmente una somera estadística sobre las temáticas que mas han aparecido por el blog y mas interacción han provocado con los lectores ha hecho que nos decantemos por el cánnabis.

It is not easy to choose the theme to reflect on in the last article of the year before the Christmas break. Finally a brief statistics on the issues that have appeared the most on the blog and more interaction with readers has caused us to opt for cannabis.

El cánnabis, además, ha estado estos días en la mente de varios colectivos como verán a continuación. Es muy curioso como una sustancia tan ligada a la historia de la humanidad en determinadas culturas, siga siendo objeto de estudio y de nuevas publicaciones en las que además de repasar todos los datos que sabemos sobre la misma, aporten nuevos e interesantes puntos de vista.

The cannabis, moreover, has been these days in the minds of several groups as you will see below. It is very curious as a substance so linked to the history of humanity in certain cultures, continue to be the subject of study and new publications in which in addition to reviewing all the data we know about it, provide new and interesting points of view.

Cuando se trata el tema del cánnabis, inmediatamente nos viene a la cabeza el componente mas conocido del mismo que es el tetrahidrocannabinol. Es el componente de la planta que la dota con propiedades psicoactivas y por tanto atractivo desde el punto de vista recreativo.

When the topic of cannabis is discussed, the most well-known component of it, which is tetrahydrocannabinol, immediately comes to mind. It is the component of the plant that endows it with psychoactive properties and therefore attractive from the recreational point of view.

Pero no es el único componente presente en la planta Cánnabis sátiva. En un reciente informe publicado por la Organización Mundial de la Salud, se pone el foco en otro de los componentes principales del cánnabis, el cannabidiol, núcleo del uso terapéutico del cánnabis. Precisamente en dicho informe se plantea que este compuesto es generalmente bien tolerado, con un buen perfil de seguridad y no presenta ningún potencial de abuso o dependencia. Como en casi todos los informes de la OMS, se concluye, no obstante, que aun hacen falta mas estudios para revisar este compuesto.

But it is not the only component present in the Cannabis sativa plant. In a recent report published by the World Health Organization, the focus is on another of the main components of cannabis, cannabidiol, the core of the therapeutic use of cannabis. Precisely in that report it is stated that this compound is generally well tolerated, with a good safety profile and does not present any potential for abuse or dependence. As in almost all WHO reports, it is concluded, however, that more studies are still needed to review this compound.

El uso del cánnabis como arma terapéutica contra diversas dolencias es cada vez mas estudiado por la comunidad científica. Como ejemplo, vean una artículo de muy reciente publicación en The American Journal of Psychiatry, Cannabidiol (CBD) as an Adjuntive Therapy in Schizophrenia: A Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial, en el que investigadores del King´s College de Londres auguran que el cannabidiol presenta un gran potencial como fármaco antipsicótico en la esquizofrenia.

The use of cannabis as a therapeutic weapon against various ailments is increasingly studied by the scientific community. As an example, see a very recent article in The American Journal of Psychiatry, Cannabidiol (CBD) as an Adjuntive Therapy in Schizophrenia: A Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial, in which researchers from King’s College London predict that cannabidiol presents a great potential as an antipsychotic drug in schizophrenia.

Mientras es España, La Organización Médica Colegial pide que el uso terapéutico del cánnabis esté avalado por la evidencia científica y bajo el control estricto de la Agencia Española de Medicamentos y Productos Sanitarios, siguiendo así la misma consideración que con cualquier otro medicamento. Tal petición unánime por parte de la Asamblea General de la OMC, es la firma respuesta de la organización colegial a la creación de una subcomisión por parte de la Comisión de Sanidad y servicios Sociales del Congreso de los Diputados de España para el análisis de la posible regulación del uso terapéutico del cánnabis.

While it is Spain, the Collegiate Medical Organization requests that the therapeutic use of cannabis be supported by scientific evidence and under the strict control of the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products, thus following the same consideration as with any other medication. Such unanimous request by the General Assembly of the WTO, is the signature response of the collegiate organization to the creation of a subcommission by the Health and Social Services Commission of the Congress of Deputies of Spain for the analysis of the possible regulation of the therapeutic use of cannabis.

Mientras nuestros representantes políticos interfieren en los organismos legitimados para la regulación del uso de un determinado compuesto como medicamento, la opinión pública sigue confusa sin tener claro que no todos los compuestos de la planta Cánnabis sátiva tienen propiedades terapéuticas y aquellos enfermos sin muchas esperanzas en encontrar soluciones adecuadas a sus males se lanzan al consumo descontrolado de una sustancia que en realidad no da las respuestas que requieren pues las variedades de plantas o sus subproductos que se venden en el mercado del cánnabis recreativo, apenas presentan concentraciones de cannabidiol (¿para que?) y si, por el contrario, altas concentraciones de tetrahidrocannabinol, que es la fracción psicoactiva y que en según que patologías puede llegar a producir un efecto contrario al deseado.

While our political representatives interfere in legitimate bodies for the regulation of the use of a certain compound as a medicine, public opinion remains confused without being clear that not all the compounds of the Cannabis Sativa plant have therapeutic properties and those patients without much hope in finding solutions appropriate to their ills are released to the uncontrolled consumption of a substance that does not really give the answers they require because the varieties of plants or their by-products that are sold in the recreational cannabis market, barely have concentrations of cannabidiol (for what? ) and if, on the contrary, high concentrations of tetrahydrocannabinol, which is the psychoactive fraction and that according to which pathologies can produce an effect contrary to the desired one.

Political professionals, let the professionals of the subject to work work and do not govern with the punch of electoral promises, because they will only create a legislation with which to satisfy part of the increasingly anesthetized electorate as well as dislike another party; but they will not be able to correctly regulate a series of substances with great therapeutic potential.

Señores políticos, dejen trabajar a los profesionales del tema a tratar y no gobiernen a golpe de efectistas promesas electorales, pues solo conseguirán crean una legislación con la que contentar a parte del cada vez mas anestesiado electorado así como disgustar a otra parte; pero no lograrán hacer una correcta regulación de una serie de sustancias con un gran potencial terapéutico.
