Zona cero tras el atentado
Nos ha llamado la atención leer en prensa que a dÃa de hoy todavÃa quedan por analizar miles de bolsas de plásticos cerradas al vacÃo, conteniendo pequeños restos biológicos de los fallecidos en la catástrofe de las torres gemelas, y nos hemos hecho esta pregunta, ¿hasta cuándo hay que seguir investigando?

Según el Coordinador del Equipo de Médicos Forenses encargados de la investigación, el objetivo final es devolver los restos de los diferentes cadáveres a las familias correspondientes pero hasta que no se confirme la identidad de cada resto no se podrán entregar. Según se recoge, cada uno de los restos investigados han sido analizados entre 10 y 15 veces, pulverizando parte de dicho material y añadiéndole reactivos para la extracción del mismo (proteinasa k, Tiocianato, CTAB,..), centrifugado, lavado y purificación del extracto, amplificación del ADN extraÃdo y su análisis. Y a pesar de haber utilizado varios métodos estandarizados, empleando los métodos tecnológicos más avanzados, no ha sido posible de establecer una coincidencia con el material genético aportado por los familiares de las posibles vÃctimas (cepillos de dientes, peines, ropas,…) en hasta un 41% de los restos hallados.

El equipo de investigadores implicados en este caso tiene como último objetivo entregar a cada familia los restos de su familiar, y que no quede ningún elemento sin identificar, por ello conforme la tecnologÃa vaya avanzando y las técnicas de extracción y análisis del ADN vayan mejorando, retornarán a los restos guardados para intentar identificarlos, y con ello llevar a la familia a la certeza total de lo que oficialmente ya saben, y es que su familiar está muerto. Sin embargo todos necesitamos esa confirmación de que de verdad dicho fallecimiento se ha producido, ya que con la obtención del cuerpo, podemos cerrar el duelo.
Sin embargo no siempre llueve a gusto de todo, algunos familiares se manifestaron para protestar ante el Memorial de la zona cero, durante el traslado de los restos, ya que consideran que este traslado es una forma de cerrar en falso la investigación y de dejar sin identificar a estas vÃctimas.
