Como es habitual durante todo el año, los casos de violencia de género no dejan de aparecer en las noticias, y las muertes por esta causa parecen agruparse de manera epidémica, no dejando de asomarse a nuestra rutina diaria en esta época de relax y descanso. Repasemos algo sobre este tema.
As is usual throughout the year, cases of gender-based violence do not cease to appear in the news, and deaths from this cause seem to group together in an epidemic manner, while continuing to lean out of our daily routine in this time of relaxation and rest. Let’s review something on this subject.
Nada parece avanzar en violencia de género
La violencia de genero es un grave problema social, totalmente transversal, que abarca a todas las edades y todos los estratos sociales. Esta afirmación que parece caer por su propio peso, debería chirriar en una sociedad moderna del siglo XXI como se supone que es la sociedad española.
Nothing seems to be advancing in gender-based violence
Gender-based violence is a serious social problem, totally transversal, covering all ages and all social strata. This assertion, which seems to fall by its own weight, should squeak in a modern society of the 21st century as Spanish society is supposed to be.
A nadie le extraña conocer casos de violencia de género en las generaciones que adquirieron su madurez entre el segundo y tercer cuartos del siglo XX, desde la Guerra Civil española hasta el inicio de la actual era constitucional. Aquella sociedad era fuertemente patriarcal, siendo socialmente aceptado el hecho de que el hombre y la mujer tuviesen unos roles marcadamente separados y la violencia de género era un asunto que no era criticado siempre que se ventilase dentro de la intimidad del hogar.
No one is surprised to learn of cases of gender-based violence in the generations that matured between the second and third quarters of the twentieth century, from the Spanish Civil War to the beginning of the current constitutional era. That society was strongly patriarchal, with the fact that men and women had markedly separate roles being socially accepted, and gender violence was not a matter that was criticised as long as it was ventilated within the intimacy of the home.
Con la democracia española, se vivió un periodo de enormes ansias de libertad que dió lugar en España a lo que se dio por llamar “la movida de los 80”, en la que los jóvenes de la época reivindicaban su libertad individual mediante las mas variadas manifestaciones culturales, dando lugar a una gran eclosión de movimientos artísticos en los que chicos y chicas competían por ofrecer una imagen lo mas original y llamativa posible a fin de demostrar esta libertad.
With the Spanish democracy, a period of enormous yearnings for freedom was lived that gave rise in Spain to what was called “la movida de los 80″, in which the young people of the time claimed their individual freedom through the most varied cultural manifestations, giving rise to a great explosion of artistic movements in which boys and girls competed to offer an image as original and striking as possible in order to demonstrate this freedom.
Pero los roles de género seguían instalados en el inconsciente colectivo de una sociedad española que no había cambiado tanto, aunque en aquellos momentos, al menos, se pretendía demostrar lo contrario proclamando cada cual su mas absoluta libertad para estudiar, vestir o decidir lo que estimase oportuno.
But gender roles were still installed in the collective unconscious of a Spanish society that had not changed so much, although in those moments, at least, it was intended to demonstrate the opposite by proclaiming each one his absolute freedom to study, dress or decide what he deemed appropriate.
Con el inicio del siglo XXI, en lo tocante a la violencia contra la mujer, nada parecía haber cambiado y el 17 de octubre de 1997, quedamos sobrecogidos con el caso de Ana Orantes y su mediática muerte. En Con usted empezó todo, Doña Ana, conmemoramos el vigésimo aniversario de esta luctuosa noticia. La clase política de la época, tomó conciencia del problema y en 2004 se promulgó la Ley Orgánica 1/2004, de 28 de diciembre, de Medidas de Protección Integral contra la Violencia de Género, ante la inasumible escalada de casos conocidos en los que las mujeres eran maltratados por sus parejas dentro de la intimidad de sus hogares.
At the beginning of the 21st century, when it came to violence against women, nothing seemed to have changed and on October 17, 1997, we were overwhelmed by the case of Ana Orantes and her media death. In Con usted empezó todo, Doña Ana, we commemorate the twentieth anniversary of this sad news. The political class of the time became aware of the problem and in 2004 Organic Law 1/2004, of 28 December, on Comprehensive Protection Measures against Gender Violence was promulgated, in the face of the unbearable escalation of known cases in which women were mistreated by their partners within the intimacy of their homes.
Quince años después, parece que cuantos mas casos se investigan, mas aparecen, ¿por que?
Fifteen years later, it seems that the more cases that are investigated, the more they appear, why?
¿Pensaban, estimados lectores, que conforme fuesen desapareciendo los ciudadanos que nacieron y crecieron en la postguerra civil le problema iba a mitigarse? Nada mas lejos de la realidad.
Did you think, kind readers, that as the citizens who were born and grew up in the post-civil war period disappeared, the problem would be mitigated? Nothing could be further from the truth.
La realidad mas desoladora asoma en los actuales Juzgados de Violencia sobre la Mujer, cuando podemos observar que se investigan casos de parejas de adolescentes, menores de edad en muchos casos.
The most desolate reality appears in the current Courts of Violence against Women, when we can observe that cases of teenage couples are investigated, minors in many cases.
¿Que sucede en estos casos? Son personas nacidas en pleno siglo XXI educadas en igualdad, que sin embargo presentan conductas tan claramente sexistas como presentaban sus ancestros nacidos antes de la actual Constitución Española. Es una situación aparentemente inexplicable que augura un sombrío futuro a la igualdad real en cuestiones de género, en el mejor de los casos y que predice una continuidad alarmante en lo referente a la violencia de género.
What happens in these cases? They are people born in the XXI century educated in equality, who nevertheless present behaviors as clearly sexist as their ancestors were born before the current Spanish Constitution. It is an apparently inexplicable situation that augurs a bleak future for real equality in gender issues, in the best of cases and that predicts an alarming continuity regarding gender violence.
Es muy frecuente estudiar casos en los que chicos de 16 – 17 años, pretenden controlar las telecomunicaciones o la indumentaria de sus jóvenes parejas y lo peor es que ellas deben asumir este tipo de control bajo la amenaza de agresiones físicas, psicológicas o sexuales. Vemos como en realidad, todo sigue igual que antes.
It is very frequent to study cases in which boys from 16 – 17 years old try to control telecommunications or the clothing of their young partners and the worst thing is that they must assume this type of control under the threat of physical, psychological or sexual aggressions. We see how in reality, everything remains the same as before.
En nuestra línea de ofrecer alguna publicación en relación a la reflexión del día, hoy les traemos el artículo publicado en Revista española de drogodependencias, titulado Dependencia emocional en el noviazgo: papel mediador entre la autoestima y la violencia psicológica en jóvenes.
In our line of offering some publication in relation to the reflection of the day, today we bring you the article published in Revista española de drogodependencias, entitled Emotional dependence in courtship: the mediating role between self-esteem and psychological violence in young people.
En el estudio enlazado, sus autores destacan el papel mediador de la dependencia emocional entre la autoestima de los miembros y la violencia psicológica recibida y ejercida. Se concluye finalmente, que efectivamente, la dependencia emocional media totalmente entre la baja autoestima y la violencia-humillación, así como con la violencia-control. Además observaron como había una relación parcial con la violencia psicológica-social.
In the linked study, its authors highlight the mediating role of emotional dependence between the self-esteem of the members and the psychological violence received and exerted. Finally, the authors conclude that the emotional dependence between low self-esteem and violence-humiliation, as well as with violence-control, is totally average. They also observed how there was a partial relationship with psychological-social violence.
Como no podría ser de otra manera, sus autores sugieren la inclusión de la dependencia emocional en el trabajo realizado en relación a la violencia psicológica en la pareja.
As it could not be otherwise, their authors suggest the inclusion of emotional dependence in the work carried out in relation to psychological violence in the couple.
From the expert point of view when assessing the possible presence of indicators of habitual mistreatment, this proposal is extremely interesting, because by clinical impression, it is true that it is perceived in this type of couples, a low self-esteem in both members and a more than probable emotional dependence, also between both members. A next step in the study, could be the study of the reasons that make this type of circumstances lead to the roles of domination – submission in cases that are positive later.

Desde el punto de vista pericial a la hora de valorar la posible presencia de indicadores de malos tratos habituales, resulta sumamente interesante esta propuesta, pues por impresión clínica, es cierto que se percibe en este tipo de parejas, una baja autoestima en ambos miembros y una mas que probable dependencia emocional, también entre ambos miembros. Un paso siguiente en el estudio, podía ser el estudio de las razones que hacen que este tipo de circunstancias conduce a los roles de dominación – sumisión en los casos que resultan positivos posteriormente.
