Hoy, el mismo día de la fecha de publicación de la presente entrada, los medios de comunicación generalistas, vienen a romper esta tendencia por la cual prácticamente el 100% de las noticias giran en torno a la pandemia originada por el SARS-CoV-2. Resulta inquietante, que la tercera noticia en importancia (tras la pandemia y los disturbios generados en Estados Unidos tras la muerte de George Floyd) sea que es Investigado el actor porno Nacho Vidal por la muerte en su casa de un fotógrafo en un rito con veneno.
Today, on the same day as the publication of this entry, the general media are breaking this trend whereby practically 100% of the news revolves around the pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2. It is disturbing, that the third news in importance (after the pandemic and the riots generated in the United States after the death of George Floyd) is that Porn actor Nacho Vidal investigated for the death in his house of a photographer in a rite of passage.
No vamos a entrar en reflexionar sobre la lectura que pueda tener la elección de la noticia para ser de las mas comentadas tras su publicación. El caso es que nos resulta interesante porque en el asunto investigado hay implícitos aspectos médicos desde el punto de vista de la toxicología.

El veneno consumido por la víctima, entre otros compuestos, contenía altas concentraciones de 5-MeO-DMT (5-metoxidimetiltriptamina), cuyo uso busca sus patentes efectos psicodélicos. Esta sustancia es muy conocida por los chamanes centroamericanos y amazónicos por su uso en sus rituales ancestrales. La ironía del caso es que presuntamente el usuario quería experimentar una vivencia de tipo místico que le ayudase a dejar otras drogas de abuso.

La 5-metoxidimetiltriptamina es, tal y como apuntábamos, una droga encuadraba dentro del grupo de las psicodélicas. En su origen era sintetizada desde una serie de plantas autóctonas de la zona amazónica, pero el descubrimiento de que era sintetizada en unas glándulas presentes en la piel del sapo Bufo alvarius, oriundo del estado de Sonora en Méjico, hizo que se hiciese popular esta vía de obtención del principio activo sin tener que extraerlo de las resinas y cortezas de las plantas que lo contienen.
5-Methoxydimethyltryptamine is, as we said, a drug that belongs to the group of psychedelics. También se produce un aumento de la actividad del sistema nervioso autónomo con relajación de esfínteres anal y vesical.

A pesar de tratarse de una droga relativamente poco conocida en la calle, existen estudios al respecto como Intensity of Mystical Experiences Occasioned by 5-MeO-DMT and Comparison With a Prior Psilocybin Study en el que mediante un estudio experimental se puede comprobar como la 5-MeO-DMT produce experiencias místicas superiores al uso de la psilocibina en dosis moderadas – altas, siendo esta última sustancia mas estudiada por la comunidad científica.
In spite of being a relatively little known drug on the street, there are studies on this subject like Intensity of Mystical Experiences Occasioned by 5-MeO-DMT and Comparison With a Prior Psilocybin Study in which by means of an experimental study it can be verified how 5-MeO-DMT produces mystical experiences superior to the use of psilocybin in moderate – high doses, being this last substance more studied by
the scientific community.
As we see, it is a dangerous substance whose margin of error in its use can be very important and with it end the life of the consumer. In Central and South American countries, they have been using this substance for many centuries for religious reasons, with a lot of experience on dosage and application times. It would be catastrophic if a totally dislocated substance were to burst into Europe under the pretext of being used for the detoxification of other drugs after the allegedly mystical ecstasy.
Como vemos, se trata de una sustancia peligrosa cuyo margen de error en su uso puede ser muy importante y con ello acabar con la vida del consumidor. En países centro y sudamericanos, llevan usando esta sustancia desde hace muchos siglos por motivos religiosos, con mucha experiencia sobre dosificación y tiempos de aplicación. Sería catastrófico que una sustancia totalmente desubicada, irrumpiera en Europa con el pretexto de ser usada para la desintoxicación de otras drogas tras el supuesto éxtasis místico provocado.
